Job Description

 

  1. Patrol district property for suspicious activity, unauthorized persons on campus, or unauthorized entry
  1. Serve as a visible and active Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) on campus dealing with law related areas such as drugs traffic, trespassing, fighting, and thefts. 
  1. Implement programs using research based methods and strategies for at risk students 
  1. Provide early intervention programs e. no bullying campaign, D.A.R.E etc. 
  1. Enforce campus rules and regulations.
  1. Take action to protect against unwanted intruders. 
  1. Make arrest when necessary to protect students, staff, and property in accordance with the Arkansas Code Annotated (ACA).
  1. Subdue offenders and criminals by using the minimal amount force necessary to protect themselves, students, teachers and staff
  1. Conduct security building assessments for campus grounds, check and secure doors, rooms, buildings and equipment.
  1. Perform other duties as assigned by appropriate supervisor and or school administrators. 

   11. To implement SRO specific, Law Enforcement best practices while utilizing district

         approved programs, i.e. A.L.I.C.E, RAVE, etc.

Physical Demands 

Ability to walk, run, climb, crawl or sit for extended periods of time. Works evening athletic, and weekend events as assigned by school safety personnel to assure adequate coverage of security is provided.

 

Education/Licensure/Experience: Must be a credentialed law enforcement officer.  Must have the physical, cognitive, language, and other traits necessary to retain this status.

 

Essential Functions:

 

Language

  • good expressive and receptive English language skills to be able to communicate with and be understood by students, co-workers and parents, receive their responses and respond to them appropriately.

Sensory

  • ability to track and observe students in a 360-degree classroom, gym or cafeteria environment to ensure compliance and safety.
  • able to visually or otherwise access written and printed content, and respond verbally and in writing.
  • the ability to understand and respond to the verbal expressions of others, often in a noisy environment with multiple speakers and background noise, or outside.

Movement

  • ability to move around inside on hard surface and industrial carpeted surfaces, and to travel at a brisk, walking pace relatively long inside distances, without needing to stop or rest.
  • able to move around outside, sometimes on a grassy or uneven outdoor surface, to supervise students outdoors.
  • able to work outdoors, for sustained time periods, sometimes during very hot or very cold weather conditions. (If applicable:  Must be able to perform sustained CPR with the subject on the floor.)

Cognitive

  • able to conform behavior to that which is socially accepted as being appropriate to an adult and positive role model who is working with young and impressionable children.
  • ability to receive complex oral and written instructions and execute them appropriately.
  • good executive functioning skills sufficient to ensure timely and accurate compliance with detailed federal, state and local record keeping requirements.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

Attendance

  • ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year.  

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time position.

Monday through Friday
