Summary: Although not licensed in any particular craft, this Maintenance Technician is a skilled tradesman performing tasks within multiple crafts depending upon his/her skill set, training and experience. In addition, the Skilled Maintenance Technician will perform, under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor/Foreman, general labor and maintenance related tasks necessary to maintain a safe and functional educational environment. The Skilled Maintenance Technician may hold certifications contributing to school maintenance, but is not fully licensed in any particular trade. 

 

Language: 

Must have adequate expressive and receptive English language skills, to be able to communicate with and be understood by students and coworkers, receive their responses and respond to them appropriately.

 

Sensory: 

Must have the ability to observe the school environment to identify areas and objects in need of repair in order to provide a safe, aesthetically pleasing, learning environment.

 

Must be able to visually or otherwise access written and printed content, and respond verbally and in writing.

 

Must have the ability to understand and respond to the verbal expressions of others, often in a noisy environment with multiple speakers and background noise, or outside.

 

Movement: 

Must be able to move around inside on hard surface and industrial carpeted surfaces, and to travel at a brisk, walking pace while carrying tools, supplies or other materials relatively long inside distances, without needing to stop or rest. 

 

Must be able to frequently bend and squat as needed to perform duties.

 

Must be able to work rapidly and with sustained effort, and to transition quickly from task to task and from tool to tool, without needing to rest. 

 

Must have the manual dexterity to manipulate and lift tools and equipment using both hands. 

 

Must be able to frequently reach above the head with both hands and be able to grasp and lift objects in this position weighing up to 40 pounds. 

 

Must be able to use both hands to lift from the floor or waist level to over the head objects weighing up to 80 pounds, such as a fully laden industrial garbage bag and lift it into a dumpster. 

 

Must be able to safely use a ladder to access otherwise unreachable areas. Must be able to lift, handle and use heavy and awkward tools and  equipment such as pole saws from the ladder.

 

Must be able to move around outside, sometimes on a grassy or uneven outdoor surfaces, while using both hands to use such equipment as industrial blowers, weed eaters, power washers, etc. 

 

Must be able to work outdoors, for sustained time periods, sometimes during very hot or very cold weather conditions.

 

Attendance: 

Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year.

 

Cognitive: 

Must be able to conform behavior to that which is socially accepted as being appropriate to an adult and positive role model who is working in an educational environment. 

 

Must be able to follow the complex spoken or written instructions of others.

 

Perform other duties as assigned.
