Job Summary:
The Special Education Paraprofessional supports the instructional and behavioral goals of students with disabilities by working under the direct supervision of a certified special education teacher or related service provider. The paraprofessional assists in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), provides academic and behavioral support, and ensures the safety and well-being of students in a variety of settings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist students with academic tasks as directed by the special education teacher.
- Implement behavior management strategies and support positive behavior interventions.
- Support students in general education classrooms, special education classrooms, or other settings, including transitions between locations.
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction as needed.
- Assist with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and hygiene, as required by student IEPs.
- Collect and document data on student progress and behavior as directed.
- Support communication between students and staff using assistive technology or communication devices if needed.
- Supervise students during non-instructional times, including recess, lunch, and transportation (bus duty), when assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and school policies.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities related to special education and student needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator.
